The Arran Farmers’ Society 187 th Arran Show is now under 2 weeks away, with something for everyone on the day it is not to be missed!
The show is a celebration of Arran enterprise which stays loyal to its traditional roots of farming heritage. This year the show will be held on Wednesday August 6 at Glenkiln Farm, Lamlash. The ever-popular event will have an array of exciting attractions, competitions, and events which have ensured its success over the last 186 years.
The main ring entertainment this year is the Clan, Scotland’s Cycle Stunt team. With two thrilling ‘Big Air Shows’ at 11am and 1.45pm. This is as big and as bad as it gets! Trials ace is joined by our big air ramp rider pulling off huge jumps, flips and other tricks. The show is a massive spectacle and builds towards a finale that has to be seen to be believed! There will also be the hugely popular vintage tractor show, Murray’s famous Dog Scurry and musical performances from the Arran Pipe Band, the Arran Music School Pipe Band and Arran Brass Band.
But, of course, the biggest attraction will be the animals themselves and the farming fraternity will have their sheep, cattle and horses in top condition for the judging with competitors aiming to win the coveted champion rosettes. The horse and livestock showing will start from 9.30am. The dog show, which is open to both locals and visitors, will begin from 12.45pm. Entries for the dog show will be taken on the day at the dog ring.
The overhead judging, prizegiving and grand raffle draw will take place between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. Raffle tickets for which will be available to purchase on show day, if you haven’t seen what’s on offer take a look at the Arran Show Facebook page – it’s not to be missed.
In addition to the shown agriculture, visitors can expect a variety of other attractions to keep the whole family entertained. Our craft and produce marquee showcase’s some of Arran’s best producers, Market stalls, food stalls, children’s inflatables and a licensed bar. Free parking will be available at the showground. Visitors are reminded to bring cash as there will be very limited card transaction available owing to very limited internet connectivity for bank transactions, the nearest cash machine can be found at the Lamlash Co-op.
